It’s time for the 2023 Hangin’ Out Art Show at the Corbin Studio and Gallery! This year’s show takes place on May 19th & 20th. As usual, we will have an opening night reception on the 19th. We’re looking for amateur artists, professional artists, people with creative hobbies, musicians, writers, sculptors, and those who like to dabble with interesting statement pieces for fun, to display your works in our gallery during this inclusive show. There are no fees to register or to display your work and the show is free to the public to attend. Artists may enter ONE piece of original artwork. If you decide to offer your entry for sale, the Crisfield Arts and Entertainment District takes only 15% commission if your piece sells. You can choose to proudly display your name with your artwork or remain anonymous. This unique show gives budding artists a chance to showcase their work in a gallery setting often for the 1st time.
The Hangin’ Out Art Show has no jury or censorship. We encourage all varieties of artwork. In the past we have had sketches on newspaper, sculpted masks, jewelry art, carvings, quilt art, sea glass works, digital art, metal sculpture, interactive pieces, poetry, paintings, primitive hooked rugs, photography and so much more! We’d love to see some performing art entries via video this year! I’m talking to you musicians!
The Hangin’ Out Art Show is modeled after an independent art exhibition in Paris that was started in the late 1800’s by a group of young artists who broke free from the constraints of the art events set forth by the government which were dominated by conservative painters who packed the jury and rejected submissions that didn’t conform to their rigid conventional standards. These artists formed their own exhibition announcing there was no jury or awards and they became the outlet for progressive art with their great variety of styles and types of artwork. These exhibitions grew in France and even now, across America, communities continue this tradition with their own spin on these shows, like ours right here in Crisfield.
